Heterogeneity in social learning

The main goals of this project are to better describe how people vary in their use of social information, to better understand the causes of the variation and to investigate the consequences of this heterogeneity for how cultures evolve. A focus of this PhD project will lie on cognitive load – induced by poverty – as a potential cause for heterogeneity in social learning. In particular, we try to understand whether people with high cognitive load are not able to use social information as effectively as people with lower cognitive load.
